In this episode, the investigation into Gabi and Sir’s past continues to unfold, bringing more tension and unsettling truths to light. The episode shifts back and forth between the present and key flashbacks, as Sir is interrogated by the DCPD, and the mystery surrounding Gabi's actions and her connection to Sir deepens.
The story begins with Sir being questioned by Trent about Gabi allegedly kidnapping him. Sir’s response is calculated as he asks if the information will be used to convict Gabi. Trent confirms that it will, and this sets the stage for a flashback that goes nearly 20 years back in time. In it, Sir wakes up to find Gabi, and an unknown man whispering nearby. The man leaves, and Sir instantly recognizes Gabi, even after all these years. She’s holding a gun and says, “You’ll be burning in hell.” This moment, filled with danger and unresolved tension, establishes the deep and dangerous history between the two.
The flashbacks continue, showing Sir trapped in the basement as Gabi holds a gun over him. She is clearly in pain, and Sir picks up on it, sensing her internal conflict. Sir asks Gabi why she wants to kill him now. There’s a knock at the door. It’s Margaret, talking about Jamie’s remains being found at the bus station. Gabi tries to reassure her, but it’s clear that things are spiraling for her. Gabi’s attempt to keep control slips as the truth about the remains begins to unravel.
Meanwhile, Dhan records a video confession about his involvement in kidnapping Sir, but Lacey stops him, pointing out that it will only hurt Gabi’s case. Dhan, desperate to protect her, believes it will at least lessen her sentence. But Lacey explains it will just provide more evidence against them. Dhan’s actions underscore the complexity of the relationships between the characters, and his guilt is palpable.
As the investigation progresses, Jamie is introduced to M&A, and Margaret brings him into the fold, introducing him to Lacey and Dhan. The tension builds as Jamie’s reappearance sparks more questions than answers. The mystery surrounding his past remains, with his initial reluctance to talk or open up adding more layers to the already complicated story. Margaret, trying to connect the dots, finds herself lost when Jamie won’t share where he’s been all these years.
Back in the past, Sir is still locked in the basement, overhearing the conversation upstairs. He starts writing notes about what he hears, taking in the details, as Gabi’s friends talk around him. Gabi, meanwhile, begins to lose control over the situation. When there’s a noise downstairs, Lacey wonders what it was, and Dhan, who knows Sir is down there, blames it on construction. Gabi, still trying to manage the chaos, gets up to go just as Trent arrives with a bag of children’s shoes. Margaret recognizes them immediately as Jamie’s.
Back in the present, Gabi reflects on Jamie’s suspicious reappearance on the night she was arrested. She tells Dhan that if Jamie has a mole, it’s really him. In another flashback, Gabi has a panic attack after seeing her father’s urn, but then remembers Sir. This leads to Sir revealing that he knows everything about her, and he offers to help. But Gabi insists she doesn’t need him.
The flashbacks continue to show Sir’s escape. When Gabi leaves, Sir takes the opportunity to go upstairs, rummaging through her things, and realizing her father has died. Sir seems to think that with her father gone, she is now “his” again, hinting at his distorted perspective on their relationship. Gabi returns to find Sir has escaped, and she knows it’s a problem.
In one of the more tense moments, Gabi shoots next to Sir, intentionally missing his head. She then reveals that she wrote a script for him, just like he used to make her read his scripts. The script accuses Sir of killing Gabi’s father. In the heat of the moment, Sir blurts out that the remains found at the bus station aren’t Jamie’s. He confesses that he saw the police file and begs Gabi for five minutes to prove it.
Gabi brings down the file and shows Sir the photos. The remains were found with a book published in 2015, years after Jamie went missing. This discovery makes Gabi realize that Sir can hear everything that happens upstairs. It also forces her to face the truth about what she’s been avoiding. Sir may be manipulative, but his knowledge and actions are also revealing a deeper layer to this mystery.
In the present day, Jamie, still confused, asks more about M&A and their work, showing that he’s not ready to go home. Margaret, who’s been trying to piece things together, talks about her work and how she’s never given up on Jamie. But his confusion about where he belongs remains. He still doesn’t want to talk about what happened to him, but Dhan opens up about his own captivity and betrayal, explaining how M&A gave him a family. He insists that Jamie is now part of that family, even if he needs more time. But Jamie isn’t ready to accept that.
As the tension builds, Dhan steals a piece of Jamie’s pizza to get a DNA test. Jamie pretends to be asleep. Meanwhile, the flashbacks reveal that Gabi’s original suspicions about the book were right all along. When Sir insists that he didn’t lie, she calls Zeke, who confirms that Sir was right about the book’s publication date. The librarian had lied to her, and the book wasn’t published in 2015 but in 2007, making it impossible that the remains found were Jamie’s after all.
In the present day, the investigation takes a dramatic turn as Sir’s confession, or lack of one, becomes crucial to Gabi’s fate. Sir refuses to confess that Gabi kidnapped him, lying to protect her, saying “Shame on you,” to Trent and declaring, “Gabriel Mosely is innocent.” This leaves the DCPD with no case, as they cannot hold her based on Sir’s refusal to cooperate.
The episode closes with Gabi returning to M&A, where she hugs everyone, but her relief is short-lived. Despite the fact that she’s no longer facing arrest, she realizes she’s not truly free from Sir. He lied to protect her, but in doing so, he’s trapped her in a cycle of guilt and unresolved tension. The scene shifts to Margaret, who adds Jamie to the wall of found persons. Jamie, though, seems distant, staring at Gabi as she watches from the background.
In the final moments, Trent finds Gabi and expresses surprise that she’s not celebrating her newfound freedom. Gabi explains that while she’s technically free from arrest, she is still bound by the weight of her past actions, and Sir’s refusal to tell the truth leaves her at a crossroads.
The episode ends with Sir in prison, looking into the camera and smiling. His smile is unsettling, leaving viewers with more questions about his true intentions and what his next move will be.
