Found - Missing While Difficult - Review: The Cat and Mouse Game Continues

In the second episode of Found, the stakes reached a fever pitch as Gabi’s dark past with Sir continued to loom large. The episode kicked off with a flashback that poignantly showed Lacey, fragile and terrified, hiding under her bed—an image that haunts Gabi’s present as she struggles to free her. These flashbacks offer crucial insight into Lacey’s trauma, which parallels Gabi's harrowing battle to stay one step ahead of Sir, who now holds all the cards. Sir’s taunts over the payphone reveal a chilling power dynamic, as he reminds Gabi that he’s no longer in her basement—he’s out in the world, closer to those she loves. When she brings up his mother’s death, he swiftly silences her, setting the tone for their dangerous cat-and-mouse game.

The episode’s tension only increased as Lacey, though held captive, tried to outwit Sir. The moment where she was forced to stitch his wound, showcased her quiet resilience, while Sir’s menacing threat that he’s “digging a hole meant for her” heightened the dread. Lacey was clever, though, managing to hide a needle in a subtle act of defiance, showing that she won’t go down easily.

Back at the office, Gabi updated her team with proof of Lacey’s survival, but internal fractures were still visible. Margaret was appalled at Gabi’s willingness to play Sir’s twisted game, while Dhan continued to support her. The emotional strain within the team came to a head with a new case involving a kidnapped newborn, Rein, whose mother, Viola, had insisted was sick despite the hospital’s dismissal. The baby’s abduction shifted focus, temporarily pulling the team’s attention from Lacey’s plight. However, even in handling the new case, Gabi’s habitual inclusion of Lacey in the team’s discussions highlighted the painful void left by her absence.

As the investigation progressed, Margaret, emotionally frayed, lashed out during a press conference, which became a media disaster. Her frustrations with Gabi boiled over, reinforcing the show’s theme of the moral grey areas in which Gabi operates—saving lives while bending the rules in dangerous ways. Meanwhile, the team discovered that Riah, Viola’s older daughter, orchestrated the kidnapping in a heartbreaking attempt to stop her family from having another child. This subplot brought a gut-wrenching emotional layer to the episode, as Gabi empathized with Riah’s pain and helped rescue her from a suicide attempt, just in the nick of time.

Amidst these developments, Gabi’s ongoing confrontation with Sir took centre stage. Their meeting in broad daylight was a pulse-pounding moment, where Gabi’s fear and determination collided. Sir, revelling in his role as a twisted puppet master, hinted at knowing more than he let on about both Lacey and the missing baby. His desire to be involved in solving Gabi’s cases is a perverse power play, adding an unnerving complexity to his character.

The episode closed on a bittersweet note. The baby, Rein, was reunited with her mother, but Lacey remained in Sir’s clutches. A close call with Sir at the episode’s end left Gabi and Trent just moments too late to rescue Lacey, with signs of a struggle marking her fleeting escape attempt. Gabi’s guilt and determination to end Sir’s reign of terror weighed heavily on her as the team toasted Rein’s safe return—bittersweet, knowing the fight for Lacey is far from over.

This episode of Found masterfully balanced the high-stakes procedural elements with the psychological depth of its characters, showing Gabi’s vulnerabilities alongside her fierce resolve. The show continues to weave trauma, survival, and emotional complexity into its plot, delivering gripping drama and leaving us eagerly awaiting Gabi’s next move against Sir.
