PowerBook II: Ghost - I Can't Fix This - Review: Welcome to the Team

In this episode of PowerBook II: Ghost, the aftermath and revenge of Diana’s brutal beating, and tragic loss of her baby is on the Tejada family, and Tariq’s #1 agenda, to say the least. At first I was upset when Diana gave Tariq the cold shoulder at the hospital, and demanded he leave. However, after explaining to him that this is what being in the game looks like, which is why she wanted no parts of it, and showed him what his “protection” cost her and their baby, it all made sense.

Councilman Rashad Tate grieves over his brother Kamaal in the morgue, with Detective Carter looking on, using the opportunity the manipulate the situation to falsely claim that the Russians were responsible for Kamaal’s death. However, Rashad isn’t a fool because he gives Carter an ultimatum that if the NYPD doesn’t find out who killed Kamaal, he’s going to the press. Carter’s focus was now to kill one of the Russians, which he eventually did, just to get Rashad off his back, but one of Carter’s men on the squad, Nico, senses something is off. He suspects Carter is hiding a lot more than he’s letting on from the very suspicious obsession over Kamaal’s real killer.

Meanwhile, Drew is still under Carter’s thumb while in prison, doing dangerous jobs in exchange for guaranteed protection of his family. His latest target is a dangerous and feared inmate named Roman of a guy named Roman, giving Drew more trouble than he needs. Drew sneaks into Roman’s cell at night and strangles him to death and staging it as a suicide. Since Drew’s “debt” is paid, he is released from prison thanks to Carter.

We also see Tariq visit his mom, who advises him to leave the game and stay out of the Tejada’s plot to kill Felicia. Unfortunately, her advice goes in one ear and out of the other when Diana calls him over to Felicia’s house in a panic, where they fought, and Diana ended up beating Felicia to death.

Noma ordered Cane to find the informant who tipped off Carter and his task force, so Cane, Effie, and Tariq’s roommate and best friend Brayden made up a story to get into a cop’s house to steal information from his laptop. This was clever seeing how the cop’s wife was home alone and started to suspect something was off about this random “visit.” However, they ended up getting everything they needed, leaving just in time to remove all her suspicions. To say I was shocked comes as an understatement when Cane proposes to Noma offering her citizenship and a real partnership instead of being her “employee.” She seemed grateful but time will tell if she accepts his proposal.

The episode concludes with Monet arriving at Felicia’s house, finding Diana and Tariq over Felicia’s dead body. Just as they were about to leave, Carter and Drew arrive, where Monet learns that Drew has been “working” for Carter, and giving him information, and Noma’s name to protect them. However, all Carter wants is leverage over Noma, offering to cover up Felicia’s murder as an “accident” if they help him. As Tariq leaves, Carter whispers to him ominously, “Welcome to the Team.” This season has been packed with explosive drama, ruthless power, and shocking twists. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Will the Tejada’s and Tariq deliver on Carter’s demands? Will Noma agree to marry Cane? This is by far one of the most intense seasons of PowerBook: Ghost, that I don’t want to end!
