Press Release
Charlie Hunnam, known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, is set to portray notorious serial killer Ed Gein in Season 3 of Netflix’s true-crime anthology Monster, as announced by Ryan Murphy at an event for the show’s upcoming second season. (The news was first reported by Variety.)

Ed Gein, who admitted to murdering two women in the 1950s, also gained infamy for exhuming graves and using human remains to craft disturbing keepsakes. His horrific crimes have inspired iconic horror films like Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Each season of Monster focuses on a different real-life criminal who made headlines. Season 1 starred Evan Peters as notorious cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer, with Niecy Nash playing his concerned neighbor, Glenda. Co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the first season was a massive success, ranking among Netflix’s most-watched series with over 1 billion hours viewed and earning several accolades, including an Emmy for Nash’s performance.

Season 2, titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, premieres this Thursday on Netflix and tells the infamous story of the Menendez brothers, who garnered media attention for the 1989 murders of their parents. Nicholas Chavez and Cooper Koch take on the roles of Lyle and Erik, while Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny portray their parents, José and Kitty.
