Press Release
Freddie Highmore has landed his first role since The Good Doctor, and it’s a significant departure from his character, Dr. Shaun Murphy.

Highmore will be joining Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, Orphan Black: Echoes) in the Prime Video thriller The Assassin. Both actors will also serve as executive producers on the project.

This six-episode series features Hawes as Julie, a former assassin who has retired to a quiet life on a secluded Greek island. Highmore portrays Edward, Julie’s estranged son, with whom she has a complicated relationship. According to the official synopsis, “Edward struggles to find the right moment to confront his frustratingly distant mother” about some new revelations regarding his paternity. However, when the opportunity finally arises, their reunion takes a perilous turn as Julie’s dangerous past resurfaces, forcing them to flee the island together.

The cast also includes Gina Gershon (Riverdale), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Baby Reindeer), Jack Davenport (Why Women Kill), Alan Dale (Dynasty), Gerald Kyd (The Swarm), Devon Terrell (Cursed), Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones), and David Dencik (The Ipcress File).

The Assassin is the latest project from brothers Harry and Jack Williams, the creators of The Tourist. Filming is currently underway in Greece. This marks Highmore’s first television role since The Good Doctor, which concluded its seven-season run on ABC in May.
