Batman Caped Crusader is the newest show from Prime Video. We have seen countless versions of Gotham’s hero over the years with movies coming out every few years it seems. With the success of My Adventures With Superman there was no way DC Comics wouldn’t give us an animated version of their other Golden Boy.
“Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human - the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications."

Immediately the animation style sticks out as it is a throwback to Batman: The Animated Series from the 90s. Even though the animation is a throwback it does not feel like a direct copy of the previous show. They creators have taken it to a new level with different costumes of the classic villains we are used to. A brand new take on Barbara Gordon and Harley Quinn for example was unexpected but it completely worked as sometimes these stories and characters can become stale.
Voice actor Hamish Linklater, the voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne sounds very similar to the iconic Kevin Conroy but puts his own spin on the character. The show being set in the noir 1920s, 1930s gives it a fresh cinematic feel. Fans will be happy to see the rogues we are used to: Harvey Dent, Clayface, Scarecrow, The Penguin to name a few. Be prepared that even though these villains are classic, some have been updated and come with a twist.

Each episode is brilliantly done with great voice acting, emotionally stimulating dialogue and great action sequences as well. We go on a journey with Bruce this season and watch him grow from a hardened vigilante to someone that cares about the consequences of his actions but he still maintains that Batman toughness throughout. There are not many comedic moments in the series, this show is more serious just like its title character. Batman: Caped Crusader appeals to adults and not for a younger audience which allows it to have more coarse language and themes.

One logline reads: “Utilizing state-of-the-art animation techniques, this powerful creative partnership will once again reinvent the character and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters, and intense action sequences, all set in a visually striking world.” I couldn’t agree more. Batman fans, be sure to tune in and give this a watch - you will not be disappointed.
