The upcoming series Young Martin aims to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved character Martin Payne from the 1990s sitcom Martin. This reimagining will delve into Payne's teenage years in present-day Detroit, showcasing his spirited and ambitious personality. The series will explore themes of family, friendship, and the transition from adolescence to adulthood, with Payne's quick wit and magnetic charm leading him into various high-stakes situations.
While Young Martin is currently not attached to a specific network, the project is being executive-produced by Martin Lawrence, Rae Proctor, Robert Lawrence, Stacy Lyles, Bob Yari, David McPherson, Rosa Peart, and Greg Martin for WonderHill Studios. The original Martin series, which aired from 1992 to 1997 on Fox, followed Martin Payne as a radio talk show host navigating life and relationships with his girlfriend Gina and friends Tommy, Cole, and Pam. The surviving cast reunited in 2022 for a special on BET+, celebrating the show's legacy and impact.
