"My Lady Jane" based on the novel, begins streaming on Prime Video June 27 and offers viewers a thrilling historical drama with a twist. The series reimagines the story of Lady Jane Grey, who manages to avoid her tragic historical fate and instead navigates the treacherous waters of political intrigue and danger as the Queen of England. With a mix of humor, adventure, and romance, it is a must-watch for fans of clever and cunning characters in historical settings. Plus, its release in late June will fill the void left by Netflix's "Bridgerton."

The cast of "My Lady Jane" is perfect, with a mix of newcomers and seasoned actors. Emily Bader's role as Lady Jane is particularly notable as a fresh face leading a prestige drama. Edward Bluemel and Jordan Peters bring their experience from "Killing Eve" and "Pirates," respectively, while Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, and Rob Brydon add a strong supporting presence. This diverse and talented cast makes for a captivating watch.

With such a strong team behind the scenes, "My Lady Jane" offers a fresh and irreverent twist on the historical drama genre. Gemma Burgess, Meredith Glynn, and Jamie Babbitt bring a wealth of experience from their previous successful projects, suggesting a blend of wit, action, and a modern sensibility. The idea of the damsel in distress saving herself adds a contemporary and empowering angle to the story. “My Lady Jane” is an unique and engaging series.

The series stands apart from every other show streaming this summer. The narrator offered great comic relief while explaining to the audience the circumstances of each episode. Emily Bader did an excellent job as the lead with her comedic timing and more dramatic scenes. Her chemistry with Edward Bluemel and Anna Chancellor really shined. Dominic Cooper is great as villain but Kate O’Flynn truly stands out as the sadistic Queen Mary hellbent on ruling England.

We often think about historical figures and what would have happened should their fate have turned out differently. This story answers this question in a way to fit the modern audience. A change to the historical facts packs a big punch and is cleverly used to touch on the topic of ostracizing a group of people society deems different.

A great time to be had by all. My Lady Jane is a near perfect summer series. After you watch the series be sure to come back and let us know your thoughts. Leave a comment and remember to connect with me on X @jereereviews.
