Preview: Evil: What to Expect This Last Season

The fourth and final season of Evil is set to premiere on Paramount+ on May 23. Evil is a psychological thriller that follows Father David Acosta, Kristen Bouchard a forensic psychologist and Ben Shakir a technical expert as they investigate supernatural cases for the Catholic Church. Most of the cases involve some type of demonic possession and because they investigate these cases, evil has targeted them.

This final season is described as “Kristen, David and Ben continue to assess cases that involve wayward technology, possessed pigs, demonic oppression and infestation, a dance muse conjured by alleged witches and an evil relic.” The series stars Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Kurt Fuller, Andrea Martin, Christine Lahti, Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco and Dalya Knapp.

Having screened the first four episodes, I can say that Evil will have you on the edge of your seat. The show keeps the gritty, scary and absurdness of a supernatural show. The season will pick up right where last season’s cliffhanger ended with Leland attempting to get Kristen on board as the mother of the antichrist. The repercussions of Leland and Sheryl’s actions will be felt by Kristen and her family.

David has an interesting journey this season as he is thrown even deeper into stories with the Vatican. We learn that David has a supernatural power that allows him to see images while they are happening called “remote view” and of course the Vatican needs his special gift to fight evil. David’s reaction to this power may not be what you expect.

Meanwhile Ben has an accident and is now being haunted by a jinn (demon) which causes him to take extreme measures to get rid of it. An atheist dealing with a haunting from a demon will surely lead to some interesting storytelling. How will Ben reconcile not being able to explain away his visions with science? Who or what he turns to for help will shock you.

Finally, as if David, Kristen and Ben did not have enough on their plate, the team only have a few weeks to assess all their cases as the Church is out of money and the team will be dissolved. All of this will lead up to the final showdown with Leland and his army of evil. Be prepared to have your mouth constantly on the floor. You will be scared, you will laugh and you will cry.
