Animal Control: Beagles and Lemurs Review: Many Unanswered Questions

It was the season finale of Animal Control tonight and we were left with many unanswered questions. While the episode was packed with many stories, it felt a little light on the humor and more heavy with the underlying tones it was trying to convey. However, when the scene leaned on the funny, it was funny.

We spent the entire episode waiting on pins and needles to learn if Victoria passed her citizenship test and after thirty minutes we learned that she did. Shred and Patel threw her a congratulatory party. The way this storyline was stretched out for dramatic effect was unnecessary. It would have had a stronger impact had she spent any time with Frank during the episode building on their feelings for one another.

In fact, Victoria and Frank did not share any alone time this episode, an odd choice as they spent the previous episode together clearly fighting feelings for one another. While I enjoyed the buddy cop scenes we were treated to with Emily and Frank, they are not endgame. Their scenes were funny as they attempted to bust the animal ring, only to be thwarted and Frank had his beloved cat stolen. Frank and Emily watching him on hidden camera, reading to his cat gave the viewers some good comedy.

There was not enough Patel and Shred in the episode. The house they renovated came out lovely, until someone fell through the floor. This storyline appears to be heading into next season, which it really should’ve just wrapped in tonight’s episode.

Not every storyline was left unresolved however, as Frank finally came to the realization that he was right where he wanted to be even if he did miss being a cop sometimes. His scenes with his family members are some of the best that the show has to offer and I hope we see his brother back next season. Joel McHale does a great job of leading the show.

The big shocker of the episode was Emily finally realizing her feelings for Shred just as he finds his mystery girl but after Rick proposes (over the phone). To avoid answering him, she pretends her phone freezes, a trick she has perfected. Shred wants to move on from Emily and Emily maybe wants to start something with Shred, is a classic sitcom trope; one that will probably take up most of next season. I do hope the writers do not drag this out for too long. There will be some great stories to tell once everyone is paired with whom they are meant to be paired with. I predict Shred and Emily getting together early next season with Frank and Victoria realizing their feelings towards the end of the season.

Overall Animal Control was a solid season that brought some laughs but could work on the animal CGI. What did you think of the episode and season overall Animal Control fans? Leave a comment and remember to connect with me on X @jereereviews.
