Press Release
"S.W.A.T." has once again defied the odds and secured a renewal for the 2024-25 season, ensuring that Shemar Moore will return both as the star and executive producer. The upcoming Season 8 is slated to include 22 episodes.

This renewal follows a dramatic turn of events last year when "S.W.A.T." was initially canceled, only to be quickly reinstated for what was announced as a seventh and final season. However, the network has now decided to keep possibilities open for future seasons by not declaring Season 8 as the final one.

The decision for a surprise renewal was made swiftly over the past few days, coinciding with the production wrap-up of Season 7. Moore himself hinted at the show's continuation by sharing photos from the set on his Instagram story, teasing that the "Season 7 finale will be đŸ”¥," without calling it the series finale.

Sources indicate that the Season 7 finale was crafted to serve both as a satisfying conclusion to the series and as a foundation for another season, eliminating the need for any last-minute script adjustments following the renewal news.

The decision to extend "S.W.A.T." was influenced by its strong performance in ratings, both on traditional linear TV and streaming platforms. The show continues to lead its time slot in viewership and ranks as the #17 broadcast drama in prime time, according to Nielsen’s Most Current data. With extended multi-platform viewing factored in, "S.W.A.T." averages 8.8 million viewers per episode, showing an impressive 11% increase in viewership year over year.
