The universe of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” continues to expand and treat fans of the long-running series with new content to devour on various mediums. The TV show based on the comics of the same name has spawned an array of spinoffs and a wide variety of game adaptations. The newest game to join the lineup is “The Walking Dead: Destinies,” which allows fans to rewrite the show’s history.

Relive the first four seasons of the show

“The Walking Dead” does not shy away from killing off major characters at crucial points during the show, regardless of how popular they may be. While this can be an utter heartbreak for fans of certain characters, it does keep the audience on the edge of their seat at all times. There have been numerous deaths during the long run of the show, many fans would have preferred to prevent, had they had the power to do so.

The brand-new video game “The Walking Dead: Destinies” by developer Flux Game Studio and publisher GameMill Entertainment grants fans this power. The game lets players revisit seasons one to four of the original TV show and change the course of its story. The game puts decision-making front and center, with actions taken by the player significantly affecting the story and world around them. Players can decide whom to kill, which villain or hero gets to live, and which side to join. All these choices have consequences, causing ripples that alter the narrative in foreseeable and unforeseeable ways. Fans of the show will recognize locations and will be able to relive iconic moments from the first four seasons. With 13 playable iconic characters, players can team up with allies and fight off walkers using various weapons and skills. Any decision made will impact the destinies of the other characters, allowing fans to forge their own path through the show’s universe.

Destinies joins a long list of “The Walking Dead” games

“The Walking Dead: Destinies” is the newest addition to a wide roster of video game adaptations of the TV show. Over the years, many games of various genres have emerged, allowing fans to jump into the universe of the hit series in an interactive way. One of the most popular titles based on the show is the episodic “The Walking Dead” game series by Telltale Games. Featuring a choice-heavy narrative, these graphic adventure games focus on emotional storytelling, allowing for a deep dive into the franchise’s world and characters.

Plenty of other titles featuring diverse experiences have evolved, including “The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners VR.” As a VR title, it is probably the most immersive way to fight the iconic zombies. For something more light-hearted, “The Escapists’ The Walking Dead” offers a puzzle experience where players have to escape from zombie-infested scenes. Meanwhile, the iconic undead have also made it into the casino gaming space. Many of the best-rated real money casinos available online offer extensive game libraries with a vast selection of online slots. Among them, fans of the TV show can find the official “The Walking Dead Online Slot” featuring likenesses of the iconic characters on its reels. Anyone who wants to fortify their base to survive hordes of zombies on the go can play the mobile game “The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land” for Android and iOS.

An expanding universe

Fans of “The Walking Dead” are truly spoiled for choice. The franchise keeps expanding its universe both on TV and in games. While the original show “The Walking Dead” ended after the 11th and final season streamed this year, there are now a total of six additional spinoff shows, allowing fans to delve into its vast universe from a diverse set of perspectives. The newest one is “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” which just ended its first season. Focusing on the character Daryl (Norman Reedus), it has already been renewed for a second season. Meanwhile, “Fear the Walking Dead” is currently finishing up its 8th and final season. More is to come next year, with “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” focusing on Michonne and Rick set to launch in February 2024. What a time to be a fan of “The Walking Dead!” With a vast array of shows and games, the undead keep on walking onto fans’ screens. “The Walking Dead: Destinies,” which will let players alter the show’s history, is out on November 17, 2023, on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
