Hulu has canceled The Great, a fan favorite comedy series starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, after three seasons. The series, created, written and executive produced by Tony McNamara, depicted the life of Catherine the Great, Russia’s reigning empress from 1762 to 1796, and earned seven Emmy nominations since its launch in 2020. It won an Emmy for Outstanding Period Costumes in 2022, and Fanning received numerous other accolades for her performance, including a SAG, a Critics Choice, an Independent Spirit Award and two Golden Globe nominations. The reason for the cancellation is unclear.
