We began with 32 episodes; now we have our winner...
Congratulations to Animal Kingdom, whose "Fubar" achieved victory in the show's final attempt at the Episode Competition. There's a theme developing here with each of the last three winners - This Is Us' penultimate episode "The Train" in 2022; Prodigal Son's finale "The Last Weekend" in 2021 - coming from a show's final season, and the final couple of episodes in particular. "Fubar" was the most selected episode during the nomination phase, although that doesn't necessarily mean anything when it comes to the voting stage.
Animal Kingdom becomes the ninth different winner: This Is Us, Prodigal Son, Motherland: Fort Salem, Lucifer, Timeless, Outlander, Person of Interest and Beauty and the Beast complete the list. Not since 2016 have we had a show win for a second time.
My thanks, as ever, to DarkUFO, who does such good work maintaining the site but in particular helps me with the technical elements of organising all of the nominations. Mostly though, my thanks to the fans, who continue to support these fun competitions. Without you, there'd be no competition.
The Episode Competition will, of course, return next summer, but we now have the small matter of the Series Competition to look forward to!
There are a couple of key considerations for us starting the Series Competition. Number one is that August is one of my busiest times of the year. Number two is that with the various industry strikes taking place, the Fall calendar is pretty bare. So, to that end, I can confirm that the nomination phase for the Series Competition will begin on Monday 21 August, with the Competition proper beginning on Monday 4 September.
So set your calendar alerts now, plan out which shows you're going to vote for, and have a good few weeks.
As for the Episode Competition, thank you once again - see you in 2024.
