As per Deadline
Sam Esmail's long-awaited adaptation of Fritz Lang's 1927 sci-fi classic Metropolis has been cancelled due to the uncertainty caused by labor unrest and economic headwinds. The series, which was prepping in Australia, was set to create nearly 4,000 jobs and inject A$416M ($310M) into the local economy. Esmail was writer, director and executive producer on the eight-episode series, which he had been working on for more than seven years. The project was set to follow the attempts of Freder, the wealthy son of the city master, and Maria, a saintly figure to the workers, to overcome the vast gulf separating the classes in their city.
