The upcoming Disney+ TV show "Shardlake" is an adaptation of the bestselling historical fiction novels by C.J. Sansom. The series is set in the reign of Henry VIII and follows the adventures of Matthew Shardlake, a hunchback lawyer who becomes a detective. Shardlake is sent by Thomas Cromwell, the ultimate Tudor powerbroker, to investigate the beheading of Robin Singleton, a commissioner responsible for disbanding monasteries after Henry VIII declared himself supreme head of the Church of England.
The series is expected to be a faithful adaptation of the novels, with lavish period costumes and sets. It is expected to premiere in 2023.
