Jennifer becomes the defendant in a frivolous lawsuit brought by her adversary, Titania (Jameela Jamil), who had the foresight to copyright the She-Hulk name. A marketing pro, Titania is now using the name to promote and sell her own line of beauty products such as “snake venom lip plumper” or as Jen succinctly puts it, “She’s literally selling snake-oil.”
The entire case is an exercise in humility for Jen when she repeatedly has to explain why she didn’t think of copyrighting her name. And, to add insult to injury, not only does she have to hire her office nemesis Mallory Book (Rene Elise Goldsberry) to defend her, but she also has to watch a parade of her failed dating app dates relate their encounters to prove she had embraced and shown a pattern of using the She-Hulk name.
While there are not as many breaking the fourth wall asides this episode, Maslany continues to shine showing both Jen’s exasperation at this latest complication brought on by her new persona and her humiliation at the depths she must stoop to win her case. She and Goldsberry made perfect foils this episode, with Jen and Mallory eventually ending up having a victory drink together and commiserating over the real power behind the throne at their law firm.
And speaking of perfect foils, Ginger Gonzaga (Nikki) and Josh Segarra (Augustus “Pug”) almost steal the episode with their escapade to connect with the hottest designer for superheroes, Luke Jacobson (Griffin Matthews), a delicious character mined from Marvel’s vaults, in Nikki’s quest to help Jen/She-Hulk update her image and wardrobe. The image of Gonzaga and Segarra in “Avongers” t-shirts is comic gold, as is the thought that there are so many superpowered humans around that there's a fashion designer exclusively creating for them. Hopefully, we get to see more Nikki and Pug teaming up and it’s a welcome certainty that we’ll get to see more of Luke.
The episode does leave us with a lot to look forward to next week, primarily the revelation of She-Hulk’s new look and wardrobe. Perhaps Luke will even introduce She-Hulk to one of his other famous clients **Cough**Daredevil***Cough.***
