New Amsterdam - Seed Money - Review

Folks, welcome back to New Amsterdam

This is the first episode to feel like a genuine New Amsterdam episode in season four thus far. While others have aired, they lacked the heart and soul of the show, but it finally finds its way back in “Seed Money”.
The first thing I did when I started this episode was to make sure that any judgment I had reserved for Veronica Fuentes was gone. I wanted to go into the episode clear-headed, knowing that her and Max’s last contact was ten years ago.

I tried desperately to give Veronica the benefit of the doubt. I really did. But my goodness, she is just awful

In terms of being a hospital director, she’s a dream to New Amsterdam’s board, and probably to any other hospital board. But New Amsterdam survives, it thrives, because of the out-of-the-box ideas and programs Max has created.

With this new piece of land they’re given, Veronica and Max must agree on what will be built there, and unfortunately, Max ends up with the short end of the stick.

Five weeks before he’s set to leave, Max has been ousted from the job he loves with his whole heart. He’s helped build this place into what it is, and it’s going to be taken away, and he’s frustrated when his coworkers don’t realize this.

Veronica decides that they need to hear from the community, and ah, she’s human.

[Record scratch. Freeze frame.] Yup, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up here, getting good vibes from Veronica Fuentes.

As fast as the good vibes arrived, they disappeared. Veronica is a great villain, and a great tool to convince Max to stay, but will it actually work

Elsewhere in the hospital, Iggy is rediscovering what he truly loves, which is helping people. As we saw before, teaching is not exactly his strong suit, but being a therapist is

We can only hope that this will incentivize Iggy to once again start speaking to patients, as that’s what he does best. He’ll need to set boundaries, of course, given Chance, but we’re seeing promise that he can get there.
Leyla leaves Lauren her shirt after Lauren leaves a voicemail about missing Leyla and it’s sweet and exactly what the two needed.

Lauren realizing her triggers, then applying them to problems she’s inadvertently caused, and fixing them by the end of the episode was great to see. She’s grown from our season one Lauren.

Overall, this was a pretty good episode of New Amsterdam. It’s clear that with everyone basically settled where they need to be for the next five weeks, everyone is getting more comfortable with the writing.

There also wasn’t too much or too little of Helen and Max, which is perfect for them. We know they love each other. We don’t need to see them in bed together all the time. Not that I’m opposed, but we also know they’re two people separate from the relationship as well.

What did you think of “Seed Money”? What are your thoughts on Veronica Fuentes? Do you agree that the show seems back to normal? Let me know in the comments below!
