This Is Us - Brith Mother - Review: This Isn't "The Notebook" + Poll

"I didn't even know I was looking for you."

Last season broke my trust in the show, and it's a little hard to get that back, but they're definitely trying. This story could've gone so badly, but they found a way for it to make sense. Perhaps it's not the same with everyone, but for some, knowing where you came from, and why, can make a big difference, from the smallest things to the biggest existential questions.

There is much to be said about the particular issues of adopted children, but there is something about feeling unwanted in your core that doesn't go away no matter how much love you're given. Here, Randall got to know his story, and he finally was able to understand why he was left in that firehouse, from the perspective of both of his parents, and perhaps now he can truly be thankful for what he has and move forward.

That's where this seemed to be heading when he called Kevin who was in a rush and we know it ends in a car crash, so we can expect an emotion-packed episode coming our way. The story Hai told was beautiful and heartbreaking. I don't know what I expected and I can't say Laurel has been the most compelling character, but I am glad Randall got some much-needed closure.

"Two imperfect people that loved me."
