This week on Legacies, everyone scrambles to save Rafael’s life. Landon finds out he’s no longer a phoenix. Alaric tracks down Rafael’s mother. Alyssa teaches Ted how to be a real villain. Hope and Lizzie create a prison world for Rafael and his parents, which is the only way to save him. Hope and Landon have an argument. You will be missed: This week’s episode made me so angry and pretty much all of it was related to Rafael. Don’t get me wrong, I love him. But the way the writers have treated him since day one has been infuriating. This is not the first time I’ve mentioned this. And despite him leaving I know it won’t be the last time (cause we all know what Julie Plec is like by now). Rafael has always been in Landon’s shadow (sometimes even literally). He barely ever had a storyline. In fact, the only real storyline I can remember was him having feelings for Hope, which was quite suddenly dropped. Oh, and let’s not forget the summer he spent stuck as a wolf. And it’s a damn shame because this week showed he was more than capable of carrying an episode. I was relatively certain he wouldn’t die, because no one ever does on this show, but the way they resolved things… Were they trying to convince us that this was a happy ending? Sure, it’s better than death. But trapped in a prison world with your parents unable to see anyone else ever again… That’s going to get old fast. Is he supposed to stay in there for the rest of his life? What happens when his parents die of old age? At first, I thought the prison world thing was just to give everyone more time to find a better cure… Apparently not. Also, why was becoming a hybrid never even on the table?
Please let it end: I know we’re technically still on what was supposed to be season 2, but I sincerely hope that it was the writers’ intention to get rid of Ted by the end of season 2 (aka in 2 weeks). I know there are people who love him but… really? Honestly, it’s like he’s a cartoon villain. Personally, I prefer my villains to have a decent backstory and motivation. Like Alyssa, who basically outvillained Ted this week. Are we sure this show is from the same creative team that brought us The Vampire Diaries and The Originals? I seriously wonder sometimes. Anyway, I hope that Alyssa’s plan for Malivore (emptying it of monsters) will mean that the Malivore storyline is going to wrap up soon. It’s time to move on.
When did that happen? When did the jerk from season 1 become a decent guy? I know we haven’t seen much of Jed so far but he has grown into a likable guy. I like that rather than physically be there for Rafael, which Jed wasn’t sure Rafael wanted, he and the pack went to look for Rafael’s dad instead.
Red flag: I already said a lot about this last week and I’m sure I’ll be able to delve into it way more next week but I just wanted to talk about Hope for a brief moment. I know a lot of people say she’s been acting out of character and that there are suspicions that this is not really Hope. I’m not so sure about that last part, but emotional trauma is definitely something that came make you act differently. I was surprised by her suggestion to Landon that he go into the prison world. It’s a clear sign of just how terrified she is of losing someone else. Can we please start dealing with this?
I highly doubt it: So, I guess we have a new prophecy. Sort of. A student will die. Hmm, am I really supposed to believe that will mean one of the main students will be killed off? This on a show that has yet to kill anyone off and doesn’t seem to be in a rush to do so. Is this to add more tensions? Because at this point, I rarely worry for anyone anymore. I know they’re going to be fine because no one ever dies (or stays dead) on this show. So, my guess is someone will die but they won’t stay dead. Maybe Hope becoming a full tribrid? Or one of the twins going heretic?
Notable absence: So while Alaric was chasing down Rafael’s mom, anyone notices anything at the school? Perhaps the lack of adult supervision while a student is dying? Seriously, a bunch of teenagers were running around, doing extreme magic to save a student from dying and not one adult was around. I mean, they created a whole prison world! They could’ve been doing virgin sacrifices and no one would’ve noticed. I know they’re used to doing this on their own, I just can’t comprehend why Alaric thought it would be a good idea to leave at a time like this. Wasn’t there anyone else he could’ve sent to find Rafael’s mother? Why was he even looking for a woman who has barely ever been in his life? I know that since it’s a school, some form of adult presence needs to be established. But at this point, Alaric’s character has just become completely useless. And considering what a toxic person Matt Davis is, it’s time to get him off the show.
