7th October 2020 - Press Release
Munich, October 6th, 2020 - Constantin Film is preparing to shoot RESIDENT EVIL, the official genesis of the Resident Evil world. Together with screenwriter and director Johannes Roberts (47 METERS DOWN), a brand new adaptation was designed that has close ties to Capcom's classic survival horror games.

The story takes place on a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998. An exciting cast slips into the roles of the legendary characters: Kaya Scodelario (MAZE RUNNER) plays Claire Redfield and Hannah John-Kamen (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP) plays Jill Valentine. Robbie Amell (upload) will play Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) will play Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (ZOMBIELAND 2: DOUBLE HOLDS BETTER) will appear as Leon S. Kennedy and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

Johannes Roberts, screenwriter and director: “With this film I really wanted to go back to the original, first two games and the associated terrifying experience that I had when I played them for the first time. And at the same time, I'm telling the story of a tiny, dying American town that will seem both familiar and relevant to today's audiences."

Robert Kulzer, Constantin Film producer: “After a dozen games, six live action films and hundreds of pages of fanfiction, we felt compelled to go back to 1998 to explore the secrets that lay within the walls of the Spencer Mansion and hidden from Raccoon City."

Producers for this origin story are Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film (Paul WS Anderson's RESIDENT EVIL franchise), James Harris for Tea Shop Productions (I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER) and Hartley Gorenstein (The Boys). Executive producer is Martin Moszkowicz, CEO of Constantin Film AG, together with Victor Hadida (Davis Film). Alex Zhang (Greyhound) is co-executive producer and Dylan Tarason (Hell or High Water) from Constantin Film is co-producer. Alex Westmore and Colin Scully from Constantin Film are overseeing the project.

The film will hit cinemas in 2021. Constantin Film takes on the distribution in the German-speaking area, Sony Pictures Screen Gems Division in the USA. Elevation will release the film in Canada and Metropolitan in France. Sony Pictures Releasing International takes over much of the remaining territories.

The previous six RESIDENT EVIL films grossed $ 1.2 billion at box office worldwide.
