The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2020 - Day 1 - Round 1: Lucifer vs. Smallville & Firefly vs. The Rookie
15 Aug 2020
2020 TV Series Competition BA Cancelled Shows Lucifer The RookieOur week of nominations has been and gone, and after 415 submissions we're ready to commence with the tenth anniversary of the Series Competition. We've narrowed it down to the top 64 shows as voted by you. 32 of these shows are current (have aired/will air episodes after July 31st 2020); the other 32 are finished shows (no new episodes after July 31st 2020). The draw has been made, and was done so with the following regulations:
1) The top 8 current shows (displayed in the draw in bold) were split up so that the earliest they could meet is the Quarter Finals.
2) The top 8 finished shows (displayed in the draw in bold italics) were split up so that the earliest they could meet is also the Quarter Finals.
3) The earliest one of the top 8 current shows can face one of the top 8 finished shows is in Round Three.
4) The other 48 shows were randomly selected a position in the draw.
The full draw can be seen below, as always using the bracket designed for us by Rendy.

Agents of SHIELD and Supernatural jointly top the nomination list among current shows, while Dark has that honour on the finished list. There are a couple of slightly surprising seeded shows, namely Empire and MacGyver - both of which have never featured in the competition before, and both of which have been running for years.
There are a few fascinating ties to highlight. The first comes tomorrow, with a clash between three-time winner Person of Interest - which has gradually declined in competition success the past two years - and The Walking Dead. Later in the round, we'll come to Breaking Bad against Game of Thrones, two shows many fans often argue over as being the best of the 2010s. A whole bunch of CW shows are all in the same quarter of the draw: The 100, The Originals, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Stargirl, Supernatural and The Flash. And wee also have the potential for an all-Damon Lindelof tie between LOST and The Leftovers in the second round.
We do have some simple rules for voting in this competition, so for those of you who are new or who are returning and just need a refresher, here they are:
1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round. Each poll will open at 12pm ET on a given day.
2) Vote for your favourite and spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) One vote per person per poll.
4) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
5) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.
So, without any further ado, here we go.
We open the competition with the 2018 winner, Lucifer, looking to regain its crown after finishing as runner-up last year. The new season drops on Netflix next week, so with plenty of buzz around the show during this competition's timeframe, that may give it a boost. It's up against Smallville today, the comic book show before the comic book show boom. This is a first Series Competition appearance for the Superman-centric drama since 2017, when it suffered a second straight first-round exit.
Firefly is one of a handful of ever-presents in the competition, although it's not made the top ten since 2013. It's had two consecutive 20th--place finishes coming into this year. The Rookie lives up to its name here, making its debut appearance. This is the kind of tie which would agonise Big Mouth's Missy, as two Nathan Fillion shows go head-to-head.
Don't forget to Facebook, Tweet, and share the poll with your friends! The more people that you get to vote, the better chance your favourites will win!
Remember to check back tomorrow for Shadowhunters vs. This Is Us and Person of Interest vs. The Walking Dead!
