Legacies - There's a Place Where the Lost Things Go - Review

This week on Legacies, Emma has the brilliant idea to put most of our main characters in a Film Noir type situation. Except it goes a bit wrong, as usual. It turns out that Josie is split in the simulation and Dark!Josie starts to kill everyone off (which pushes them out of the simulation, no harm done). Rafael is having some weird memory flashes. MG decides he no longer wants to be the sidekick. Hope has doubts about her relationship with Landon. Josie wakes up from the simulation as Dark!Josie, escapes from the cell she was being kept in and kind of set the place on fire. But she looked really good doing it.

Not into it: I figured I’d start with the obvious, the black and white simulation. I didn’t like it. I’m not a fan of the whole film noir genre. I hated it when they did it on Castle as well. I rolled my eyes so much at the cheesy dialogue that it gave me a headache. But my biggest issue was how much time it took up. It was like half the episode. There was too much MG and not enough Rafael, who is clearly struggling with something but that barely got any attention. Let’s just say that this is not how I would’ve handled this episode. I did however like that there was no monster of the week. While I disliked the first half of the episode, once they got out of the simulation things vastly improved.
That’s more like it: You know, I thought the writers would drag out Josie’s storyline for another episode. That they’d have the darkness lurking in the background for now before revealing it. But hey, if this means we get more Dark!Josie, I’m all for it. Her exit from that prison cell was badass. I liked that they once again dropped hints to the Merge. Last season we said that Josie was probably the stronger one of the twins, but that since she always puts Lizzie first, she might not fight hard enough. Dark!Josie does not have that issue at all. She was willing to put her twin sister into a coma until the Merge. I wonder what her plans are. I know it’s the twins’ birthday next week, they turn 17. But that’s still a long way from the age they need to be to do the Merge. If I’m not mistaken, the twins need to be 22 to do the Merge, which would mean the show would need to last another 5 years, which isn’t exactly a given. The Originals didn’t last that long. So I wonder what the writers are planning here, both short term and long term.

Growth: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Lizzie has come a long way. And it really showed in her conversation with MG. All you need to do is compare it to any scene of them in season 1 and you see a huge difference. She just seemed so grown up in this moment. Also, I love this girl’s brain and her ability to see through illusions faster than anyone else. I’m glad they’ve turned what used to be a weakness of hers into a strength.

Give this girl a storyline: When the main character of the show only talks about her love interest for an entire episode (and most of the episodes before that), she needs a new storyline. Hope is such an interesting character, there are a dozen different things they could explore when it comes to her. So it really sucks to see her reduced to this. Look, I know there are a lot of Handon fans, but at this point, it might be better to cut the love interest loose. He’s dragging her down.
See ya: I’m glad Emma is gone. I liked her last season but after everything that happened with Alyssa and what we found out about how she helped Alaric with the prison world in the past, just nope. And there seem to be no consequences for what Alaric and Emma did. Everyone seems to be just fine with it. So I’m glad she’s gone. I’m still not thrilled with Alaric but we’ve known him for a lot longer. Emma, on the other hand, I don’t like what I’ve seen.

Best quotes: Lizzie: “You were having a sex dream.” Josie: “What? No, I wasn’t.” Lizzie: “Please tell me it wasn’t Landon or Hope for that matter.”
Jade: “Trust me, I am totally self-aware. I don’t need your stupid game to tell me I have the hots for Josie Saltzman. Alright? I’ve known that since I saw her in the prison world.”
Noir!MG: “Is this a serious offer?” Lizzie: “Hell no, but the fact that you’re convinced I’m a killer and you still considered it totally proves my point. Now Fifty Shades me.”.
Dark!Josie: “Every Super Squad needs a supervillain.”

That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all-new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
