Another week, another episode where I feel like punching Logan Kim in his arrogant, smug face. “The One Where Conrad gets his Groove Back” bounced back and forth between the darker moments between Nic and her father and what was happening at Chastain. The good guys seemed to have come up on top in this episode, so I’ll take this as a win, even if no one punched Kim.
Conrad is having no luck getting employed in any hospital in the region; Red Rock has been actively fighting against him, black listing him. By the end of the episode, he managed to turn the situation on Logan Kim, and get them to give him his job back, but it wasn’t without any hurdles along the way. With a callback from a few episodes back, Conrad meets up with Reggie, the coach of the Atlanta soccer team, and also the guy who he saved when they were flying in zero gravity. One of the rookies is not feeling well, and wants a second medical opinion. Conrad is that second opinion.
As they are watching the practice, Dax gets kicked in the abdomen and cannot get back up. What hadn’t seemed like a hard hit caused a lot of damage and Conrad finds his way, once again, at Chastain, with a patient. Bell comes in to treat the soccer player, and Conrad can stay, as a friend of the patient much to Logan’s displeasure. Logan lets him know that if he lays a finger on the patient, he will have him thrown out and sued. It seems like Conrad will be able to play by the rules, but that does not last long. He eventually gets escorted out of the hospital by security. Of course, Logan does not care about the wellbeing of the patient, only cares about making Conrad pay.
In the beginning of the episode, Devon is back to his old wardrobe with his shirt and bow tie. It is his first day in the dual internship program, so he is not in the ER for the day. Internal medicine and emergency room are two departments that are fundamentally at odds. Devon believes he can be the bridge, instead he is to be the gatekeeper of the floor. Irving and Devon’s bromance is put to the test, but not for long, as Devon quickly sides with Irving. Devon’s new boss criticises the ER and accuses their poor management skills of filling up his beds. Red Rock prioritises surgery patients over ER patients because they are more lucrative. After Devon’s admission is blocked, and the health of the patient is compromised, Devon quickly goes into solution mode so that it does not happen to other patients. I’m liking Devon’s character more as he matures into a more well-rounded doctor.
When Conrad is ready to give up, and move to a town where Red Rock has not had him blacklisted, Devon convinces him to continue fighting. Devon and Conrad support each other, they are more equals now, but their relationship still has the aura of mentor mentee. When the team owner realised who really helped his player, he offered Conrad a job, for him to be the team doctor. He would be able to get him a job at the hospital that the contract is valid with. Conrad uses it as a bargaining chip with Kim to get his job back, chief resident, and it works. I love seeing the comradery between them as they celebrated Conrad. It’s for moments like these ones I watch the show.
Also happening at the hospital, Mina is getting ready to say goodbye to Michelle. Adaku is feeling much better. She can be discharged and sent home.so Mina brings Michelle in to meet her mom. Even with Mina’s harder shell, she really got attached to the baby, and has difficulty letting her go. It painted a nice picture of the character. How cute was it to see her singing to the wheels on the bus?

From the beginning of the episode, Nic was worried about him, but he promised he is fine. After hearing his excuses for her not to come inside, and seeing all the packed boxes, she assumed that he was skipping town without telling her about it. It is what she would have expected of her father in the past. It was what he did, it did not shock her. Their relationship has flourished since Jessie’s death though, and Nic comes to figure out that there is something more going on than just her father skipping town. He isn’t that person any more. She remembers how much he has changed since coming back into her life, and she understands what he is planning on doing.
She rushes to his side; she will not be walking out on him while he needs it the most. She will be there for him, as she realises she wants him with her in the future. They played out the father daughter dynamic perfectly; it was a very emotionally charged scene. Finally, she breaks through to him, and he gives her his gun.
I enjoyed this episode, and give it another 7,5/10. I'm very happy Conrad is back at the hospital. The gang is back together again.
