The majority of The CW's programs are shot and produced in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and the widespread work stoppages quickly touched all of the shows. RIVERDALE was among the first, shutting down after a member of the production team came into contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus. The DC superhero shows of the Arrowverse were next, with THE FLASH, BATWOMAN, and SUPERGIRL all forced to pull the plug on production before being able to finish their current seasons' shooting schedules. The stoppage hit dramas CHARMED, DYNASTY, and NANCY DREW as well, as the majority of studio productions around the globe had come to a screeching halt by March 16th. Some were days, other weeks from finishing out their planned schedules for their respective seasons.
THE 100 powered through the final few days of work on its series finale and were able to successfully wrap on the 16 episode final season that will include a backdoor pilot with hopes of a prequel series. LEGACIES has been pulled from the schedule as the show fell behind schedule and couldn't finish episodes. Already primed to return from a scheduled on air hiatus, the work stoppage seemingly hit SUPERNATURAL the hardest. Showrunner Andrew Dabb shared on Twitter that March 23rd's episode will be the show's last "for awhile" due to delays in the visual effects and sound departments. The production filmed through episode 18 and plan to return at a date TBD to finish out the series in a proper manner. Further complicating matters is how the end of SUPERNATURAL will then impact the production on star Jared Padalecki's followup series, WALKER. The WALKER, TEXAS RANGER reboot was previously announced as a straight-to-series pickup for next season's schedule by The CW, which Padalecki slated to segue to his new home and role right after SUPERNATURAL wraps its 15-season run.
Another straight-to-series order, SUPERMAN AND LOIS also had its work halted on the pilot. It is expected to bypass the pilot process and jump right into production. Other pilots that were slated for production to compete for consideration by The CW Executives for next season's schedule also share in the frustrating stoppage pattern. The network itself was quick to cancel its annual live Upfront Presentation which takes place in the spring to showcase new show pick-ups and the fall schedule for advertisers and affiliates. With thousands of jobs and millions of dollars at stake, many answers evade us all as everyone battles COVID-19 and government agencies around the World work to defeat the pandemic while keeping economies afloat. We're sorry for any inconveniences and dismay over schedule changes and shortened seasons, but remember: we're all in this together.
