Series nine of BBC One’s smash hit crime drama, Death in Paradise, welcomes a raft of acting talent alongside series regulars Ardal O’Hanlon, Aude Legastelois, Tobi Bakare, Shyko Amos, Elizabeth Bourgine and Don Warrington - as well as new lead detective, Ralf Little. The star-studded series will return to BBC One early next year.

Renowned for its clever murder mysteries against an idyllic Caribbean backdrop, Death In Paradise remains one of television’s highest-rated dramas since launching in 2011 and the tenth series will go into production in 2020.

The award-winning series will also see EastEnders star, Nina Wadia join for not one, but several episodes in a guest role.

Nina Wadia says: “It’s been wonderful playing Anna, who in having to start her life over, rediscovers herself whilst unexpectedly finding romance on the island! I laughed my way through it all; how could I not with that fantastic cast?”

Steve Pemberton says: “Death In Paradise is such a well-loved and established show and it was a pleasure to be part of series nine. The cast and crew were brilliant and with the bonus of filming in Guadeloupe with my old pal Ralf, it was an opportunity that I couldn’t miss.”

Alexander Vlahos says: “I’m thrilled to have been invited to be part of this wonderful series. I had an absolutely joyous time on the island, working with Ardal and the rest of the team. I can’t wait to see the episode!”

Filmed on the picturesque French-Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, this series will feature new intriguing puzzles for the team to solve including a mysterious masked attacker who strikes twice at a family rum distillery and a survival camp trip gone wrong!

Tim Key, Executive Producer of Death In Paradise, says: “Our casting director, Sacha Green, has really excelled this year, delivering one of the strongest guest casts we’ve ever had. It’s wonderful to see how enthusiastic everyone is when they join the Death In Paradise family - it feels like a real badge of honour! I can’t wait to share the results of everyone’s hard work with our audience next year.”

Other guest stars include: Louise Brealey (Sherlock), Matt King (Peep Show), Clare Hope-Ashitey (Doctor Foster), Elliot Cowan (The Spanish Princess), Amanda Hale (The White Queen), Alexandra Roach (Sanditon), Adrian Bower (The Last Kingdom), Michael Obiora (Luther), Chanel Cresswell (Trollied), Sam Troughton (Chernobyl), Ellen Thomas (Casualty), Peter De Jersey (Broadchurch), Kadiff Kirwan (Timewasters), Andi Osho (Curfew) and Barbara Flynn (The Durrells).

Nell Hudson says: “I had such a wonderful time filming with all the cast and crew on Death In Paradise and it was fantastic to be shooting on such an idyllic location as Guadeloupe. I‘m thrilled to be part of series nine and I can’t wait to see it on BBC One next year.”

Death In Paradise is commissioned for the BBC by Charlotte Moore, Director of Content, and Piers Wenger, Controller of Drama Commissioning.
