Sophia Di Martino (Flowers, Yesterday) is set to co-star opposite Tom Hiddleston in Marvel’s Loki limited series for Disney+, sources confirm to Deadline.
In the new Marvel Studios series, Hiddleston returns as the mercurial Loki, the Asgardian god of mischief and everyone’s favorite Marvel villain, in stories that take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Kate Herron is director, Michael Waldron is head writer for the series, slated for 2021 premiere.
One source close to the production hints that Di Martino may in fact portray a female incarnation of Loki and, in effect share the role with Hiddleston. Loki is a trickster god and a shapeshifter and, in the pages of Marvel Comics, has been portrayed at times in a female incarnation. In September, Marvel Press published a high-profile YA novel by author Mackenzi Lee called Loki: Where Mischief Lies that presented the character as pansexual and gender-fluid.
