Will Poulter (Midsommar, The Maze Runner, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) has joined the cast of Amazon's Lord of the Rings series adaptation per Variety's exclusive. Poulter will play one of the lead roles. Further details about his character are not being revealed.
Amazon's Lord of the Rings series will take us back to Middle Earth during the Second Age where it'll explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring.
The series will be written by JD Payne and Patrick McKay who lead a writers room including Gennifer Hutchison (Better Call Saul), Jason Cahill (Halt and Catch Fire), Justin Doble (Stranger Things) amongst others. Juan Antonio (J.A.) Bayona will direct the first two episodes of the fantasy adaptation.
The project has a 5 season commitment plus a potential spinoff.
Poulter joins previously announced Markella Kavenagh.
No details about the characters are being revealed but it is believed that Poulter and Kavenagh play the two leads, referred to as Beldor and Tyra, respectively.
