Deadline has exclusively revealed that Freeform is not moving forward with Unrelated, it's straight-to-series comedy from Kenya Barris (Black-ish, Grown-ish, Mixed-ish).
The multi-camera comedy will be redeveloped at Freeform. The project hailed from Kenya Barris, Ranada Shepard and ABC Signature and starred Jordin Sparks, Matt Shively, Brooks Brantly, Gigi Zumbado, Jessika Van and Davi Santos. The cast has been let go in light of the redevelopment.
Unrelated, set in Los Angeles, was to follow Becca and her newly discovered half-sister Jesi as they're thrown into each other's lives by an online genetics test and have to figure out how to go from strangers to sisters.
Freeform, which in late April appointed comedy veteran Lauren Corrao as head of original programming, is now going back to the drawing board and will be looking for a fresh take on the concept with a new writer. In light of the redevelopment, the cast has been released.
