The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Neil Gaiman's beloved Vertigo comic series, The Sandman, has been ordered to series at Netflix. A formal deal has not been closed.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Netflix has signed a massive financial deal with Warner Bros. Television to adapt the DC comic series into a live-action television show. It's noted to be the most expensive TV series ever attempted by DC Entertainment.
Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, The Catch, Grey's Anatomy) will pen the adaptation and serve as the showrunner. An episode count has not been revealed. Gaiman (American Gods, Good Omens) will executive produce alongside David S. Goyer (Krypton, Constantine, Da Vinci's Demons, Isaac Asimov's Foundation).
Neil Gaiman's horror, fantasy and mythology tale is one that follows Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, and the Endless, the powerful group of siblings that includes Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium (as well as Dream).

The first season will be eleven episodes. That's the start of it all. Preludes and Nocturnes and a little bit more. https://t.co/tOlfJ1kS1y

I'm hoping we can make something on television that feels as personal and true as the best of the Sandman comics did. Just set thirty years later than Sandman the comic. https://t.co/Wy8y4aDbdE

Yup. (Especially the bit about the pact. The Netflix people had to sign it at midnight, in bat blood.) https://t.co/d8yCA1ctNh

It's official! Here's a Variety article about the Sandman plans. Although it's fair to say that it, too, is filled with errors, and seems to think that David Goyer and I wrote a Sandman script that was actually written by the brilliant @jackthorne https://t.co/tXjXF75Pey

If memory serves, @hitRECordJoe was never going to play Morpheus. He had planned to play the Corinthian. https://t.co/vudPxfEbal
