Roswell, New Mexico - Recovering the Satellites - Review

This week on the season finale of Roswell, New Mexico, Michael and Max fight over Noah and both get injured while Noah gets away. Kyle finds out that Alex’ dad killed his dad and buys some protection. He then manages to put Manes into a coma. Max is able to channel lightning and kills Noah. He heals Michael’s hand, which doesn’t go unnoticed. Michael ditches Alex to go see Maria. Max and Liz get together. Isobel and Michael find Noah’s evil lair which includes Rosa’s body in a pod. Isobel starts to practice different powers. Max heals Rosa but may have killed himself in the process.

Thor, is that you? Max was an absolute badass this week, actually catching lightning with his hands. But I’m a little worried about him. Yes, things didn’t look good for him at the end of the episode but that’s not what I mean. I highly doubt they’ll kill off the male lead. I’m sure they’ll find some way to save him, characters like that have plot armor. What I meant, was that I’m worried for his mental state. He was a bit (or more than a bit) unhinged this week. Noah mentioned how addictive their powers could be and I think Max is starting to feel that. I think that killing Noah give him such a boost that he wasn’t thinking clearly when he started healing Michael and Rosa. And it’s kind of a vicious cycle, isn’t it? The more he uses his healing powers, the more he’ll have to use the bad ones to be able to keep the good ones. He’ll be severely depleted after resurrecting Rosa (which, btw, is a huge line that was crossed) so I’m worried about what he’ll do to regain his strength. I still don’t think he’d willingly hurt an innocent but there will be strong urges.

Smart guy: Kyle also nearly went off the deep end when he tried to buy a gun. I’m glad he made the smarter choice, though. He knew himself well enough to know that even if he did buy the gun, he wouldn’t be able to use it. So he bought actual protection, a bulletproof vest. I guess he knew Manes would shoot first and ask questions later. And I totally thought Manes would overpower him but using medicine to take him out was very clever. Not sure where they’ll go from here, though.

I do get it: As much as I dislike this love triangle between Michael, Alex, and Maria, I do understand why Michael is conflicted. He truly loves Alex but it’s just too painful right now. Alex is tied to so many bad things that happened, even if none of them were his fault. But the relationship with Maria is much easier, she doesn’t even know what he is. So I understand why he went to see her instead of Alex, even if I don’t like it.

Explain that: I’m very curious to see how everyone will explain the unexplainable. Like Michael’s hand being fully healed, or Rosa suddenly being alive, or even Isobel’s husband disappearing. We all saw how shocked Maria was when she saw Michael’s hand. I doubt it’ll be long before Liz or Michael fills her in on everything. I guess in Michael’s case it helps that he’s not very social so not that many people will notice. But Rosa suddenly being alive after 10 years, and looking the same age, will not go unnoticed. I wouldn’t be surprised if the violence against Liz’ family gets even worse now.
Season 2: So there’s a lot to look forward to next season that I already mentioned above. And yes, in case you hadn’t heard, we just found out that there will be a second season. So now that Manes is incapacitated (for the time being) and Noah is dead, we’ll need a new bad guy. Noah mentioned something about another alien race that’s out to get Max. We only got a brief mention but I think (and hope) that this storyline will get a bigger focus next season. I kind of hope the CW sticks to the 13 episode format. I’m so sick of 22 episode seasons, they’re way too long with too many fillers. I prefer 13 or 10 episodes. It moves the storylines forward and I think it also helps to prevent people from quitting halfway through the season.

Best quotes: Liz: “When I committed my life to science, I stopped believing in magic, in fairytales with happy endings, in gods and in ghosts. But then, I met a demon. A creature who could possess an innocent. So, I can’t help but ask: If the devil is real, what else walks amongst us?”
Isobel: “I think I know where he might be. Call it a loving wife’s intuition.”
Michael: “Love is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me and I was in a spaceship crash.” Isobel: “You know, you never want to talk about Alex Manes but you do realize that my romantic troubles now trump your flimsy little closet, right?”

That’s it for this season. Let me know in the comments what you thought of the season finale.
