This week on Shadowhunters Clary and Jace try to spend the day together but are interrupted by Jonathan who pretends to be Jace. Clary figures it out and alerts Izzy but fails to capture him. Magnus makes a deal with Lorenzo, power for his apartment but it seems to have some side effects. Maia and a wounded Jordan are trapped. Jordan nearly dies until Simon and Luke find them. Luke is then arrested when caught with the bodies of the dead wolves.
Kind of pathetic: Did anyone else wonder when Jonathan is going to stop focusing on his sister and start his master plan? I want to see him meeting with shady people, getting shady ingredients for shady rituals. Instead, he’s re-enacting scenes with a fake Clary and pretending to be Jace so he can make out with his sister. Get a grip, man. I’ve started to notice that since finding out about the cancellation, that the show is on borrowed time, it’s really not a good thing to have read the books. Because before, when certain storylines are different or slower, I always figured we’d get there in the end. But now, I’m mentally crossing out storylines we won’t get to due to a lack of time. So Jonathan needs to get to work already.
I sense some tension: Alec also not happy with this storyline. He didn’t really voice it but you could tell by his facial expressions. And I don’t think it was really about him having his magic back but about the implications of it. Magnus immediately reverted back to his old self, relying on magic for everything. And I guess maybe Alec liked that he and Magnus were on more equal footing before. When your boyfriend is an immortal warlock with incredible power, it’s easy to feel unimportant. But it seems that this is how Magnus felt without his magic. I’m sure these 2 will work it out, you know, once they actually talk about it.
Pointless drama: So I get that Maia and Jordan each had a lot to work through before they could be together again, and I get that the writers wanted to put all of that in this episode, but considering where things left off last week, I kind of expected a bit more action. It was just … talking. Which would’ve been okay if the rest of the episode had been more high paced, but it wasn’t. And then there’s Luke’s storyline, which we haven’t really seen much of. Most of what we know about Luke’s problems at works is what he’s told us, we’ve barely seen any of it. So when they were suddenly following him and arrested him at the diner (how the hell did they find him?), it felt kind of pointless. I’m sure he’ll either talk his way out or escape next week. I’m sure autopsies of the bodies will reveal that they’d been dead for a few hours, and since those cops had been following him he has an alibi. Unless, you know, the Clave or the Praetor takes possession of the bodies before an autopsy can be performed. Because they’d probably find some other weird stuff. My point is, I had kind of hoped that Luke would have gotten at least 1 decent storyline during the show’s run. But I guess that’s not happening.
Best quotes: Jordan: “We just have to sit tight. Someone will come for us eventually.” Maia: “Who? My whole pack was just slaughtered. Luke stepped down and the Jade Wolf is freaking closed on Mondays!”
Magnus: “My magic, it makes me feel alive. Yes, I can do fabulous tricks, jet around the world, help the people I love. But it’s more than that. Magic connects me to everything around me. Without magic, I feel like a stranger. The world keeps on going and it’s like, it’s like I’m not a part of it. Like suddenly I don’t matter.” Alec: “Magnus, of course, you matter.” Magnus: “I know. I know, Alexander. Everyone does. But without magic, I can’t feel it.”
Jace: “We’re going to make this right, Clary. I swear on the Angel. I swear on us.” Clary: “Why us?” Jace: “Because there isn’t anything I believe in more.”
