The Outsider is coming to HBO. The upcoming drama series stars Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Ready Player One) and is based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name. It will be produced by Mendelsohn and Jason Bateman (Ozark, Game Night), who will also direct the first two episodes.
It follows a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a young boy. The crime, however, leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe to be real, as an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case.
Richard Price (The Night Of, The Deuce) is slated to write.
The series is produced by Bateman’s Aggregate Films (Ozark) and Temple Hill Entertainment with studio support from MRC (House of Cards, Counterpart). Executive producers include Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment, Richard Price, Jack Bender (Lost) and Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films.
