NBC has put in development Secret Society, a female-focused comedy from Barry producer Emily Heller, Girlboss creator Kay Cannon and Laverne McKinnon’s K&L Productions and Universal TV.
Written by Heller, Secret Society centers on Beth, a struggling reporter who is tired of feeling invisible in her small town and recruits other women to help take over a dying branch of an all-male secret society.

Tyler Ross (The Killing), Derek Smith (Grey’s Anatomy), Nana Ghana (White Rabbit), Monique Kim (Looks That Kill) and Marissa Cuevas (Midnight, Texas) have joined the recurring cast of What/If, Netflix’s social thriller anthology drama series starring Renée Zellweger, Jane Levy and Blake Jenner, from Revenge and Swingtown creator Mike Kelley.
What/If explores the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. The first season focuses on a mysterious woman’s lucrative but dubious offer to a cash-strapped pair of San Francisco newlyweds.

Scare Club - Drama in Development at Freeform
Freeform has bought drama Scare Club to develop as a potential special event series from Matt Hastings (Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments). Hastings will write the first two hours of the six-part series as part of Freeform’s Halloween block and is attached to direct and executive produce the pilot and series.
Scare Club tells the tale of four twenty-somethings from disparate backgrounds who have a monthly book club that meets at the actual location where each book takes place. The friends’ personal stories intertwine with the hair-raising novels that they are reading. Part road trip, part scare-provoking anthology, Scare Club puts a new twist on traditional narrative with a Halloween spin.
