Andy Bean (Power, It: Chapter 2, Here and Now) and Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) have joined the cast of DC Universe's upcoming Swamp Thing series per Deadline. Bean has been cast as the biologist, Alec Holland whilst Derek Mears will take on the role of Swamp Thing.

Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.

The drama based on DC characters hails from James Wan in association with Warner Bros. Television. The live-action drama will debut on the streaming service in 2019. Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman will pen the script with Wan, Verheiden, Dauberman, Michael Clear, and Wiseman executive producing the live-action series. Len Wiseman (Sleepy Hollow) is set to direct.

Bean's Holland is caught in the cross-hairs when he discovers the mystery may be connected to his work in the swamp. That leads him into conflict with dark forces, from which he emerges as the elemental hero known as Swamp Thing. As the monster (Mears) struggles to hold onto his humanity, he must embrace what he has become in order to defend the town as well as the natural world at large.
