Anjelika Washington has joined the cast of Stargirl, an upcoming DC Universe live-action series written by Geoff Johns. Washington's role isn't being revealed at this time but it will be a series regular one where she will play a "familiar" DC Comics character per Geoff Johns and The Wrap. Washington joins series star Brec Bassinger in the DC series.
Stargirl follows High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series premiering in 2019, produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions.
Johns created the DC Comics character Stargirl in 1999 as a way of honoring his late sister who was killed in a 1996 plane explosion. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will executive produce the Warner Bros Television series alongside Johns. The series will debut in 2019 along with Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing.
