Empire - What Is Done - Review

I have been praising season 5 so far, as I really enjoyed its focus towards a clear direction. “What is Done” is a slight misstep in comparison we what we have seen. Let’s summarize what happened.
Andre and Hakeem finally have a real confrontation: the older brother doesn’t feel guilty about Anika’s death but he says that he will be always on his side. I really enjoyed this moment between the two. So much has happened, and we needed a real and serious discussion.

Cookie and Lucious are still dealing with the problems of the company. Cookie takes to the street and wants to search the next big artist. She is also becoming a social star: with the help of the always funny Portia, she tries to involve Empire’s audience in her daily quest. Instead, Lucious is trying to win money at the poker game. The Lyon patriarch has changed, but it’s coherent with his story.

Jamal and Becky are spending some time together and have little fights over Kai. I enjoyed these funny moments of relief. Empire is always so serious, we need to get the funny side back. For the flashforward side, we finally have the certainty that Cookie will be alive! What a relief.

All in all, the episode didn’t create any surprising evolution of the plot. It wasn’t boring or repetitive, but I didn’t see the point of “What is Done”
