An innocent game of "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board" goes wrong when the five teen girls who played start dying off in the exact way that was predicted, forcing the survivors to figure out why they're being targeted - and whether the evil force hunting them down is one of their own.
If you were hoping for a fun supernatural show to get you into the Halloween spirit then Light as a Feather will hit a spooky, sweet spot for you. I was privileged with the chance to watch the first season in full in addition to getting an exclusive interview with stars, Liana Liberato and Haley Ramm, (who play McKenna and Violet, respectively).
Light as a Feather is based on the popular Wattpad short story of the same name, written by Zoe Aarsen. The creator, Lee Fleming Jr. worked as a producer on shows like One Tree Hill and The Lying Game and you can feel their influence while watching. One surprise member of the production team? Kelsey Grammar. As in the Kelsey Grammar of Frasier and Cheers fame, he serves as one of the executive producers.
I know when I was a teenager I used to play it with my friends at sleepovers. Whenever the clock struck midnight it filled us all with a giddy sense of recklessness and out would come the Ouija board and creepy ghost stories. Playing light as a feather and similar games is a rite of passage in every teen girl's life. Light as a Feather establishes those vibes and atmosphere in the very first episode. The girls are all well-cast and have great chemistry with one another. I found their chemistry made the show feel more grounded and believable.
Dylan isn't the only one with a teen drama pedigree. Fans of Scream will recognize Brianne Tju, who played Riley in the first season, as Alex. Ajona Alexus, who plays Sheri on 13 Reasons Why, portrays Candace in Light as a Feather and if any of you watch Bunk'd you'll recognize Peyton List as Queen Bee, Olivia. Actually, this show should tap right into the market of fans who loved Teen Wolf, Pretty Little Liars, and/or MTV's Scream.
So what can we expect from the first season? Plenty of scares and secrets. Like all great mystery shows, nearly every character has skeletons in their closet, and some of them are pretty dark. The central plot of the girls being targeted after they play Light as a Feather, (they shot the scene in a real cemetery by the way), unravels in completely unexpected ways.
I won't reveal too much but I think fans will enjoy trying to figure out how each "death" might carry out, if they even do. There are plenty of twists and surprises to keep audiences in suspense and even some moments that are certain to make your skin crawl.
