ABC has given a put-pilot commitment to an untitled drama which revolves around a criminal justice system run by women of color. The project hails from Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Riverdale), Nkechi Carroll (All American, Rosewood, The Resident), Warner Bros, Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman per The Hollywood Reporter.
Carroll co-executive produces the upcoming CW football drama, All American, and will be penning the untitled pilot which follows a woman who moves to North Carolina to work as a police chief and who learns that the small town's criminal justice system is run entirely by women of color. Berlanti and Sarah Schechter executive produce with Carroll.
No one needs a second chance more than recently divorced and unemployed Chelsea Barnum. When she packs up her kids and moves from the big city to the small town of Sutter, North Carolina, to accept a job as the new police chief, what she finds is something unimaginable — a criminal justice system run entirely by women of color. What started out as a second chance at a career ends up becoming a second chance at life, as together these women revolutionize crime and punishment while restoring hope, community and humanity to a town that desperately needs it.
Additionally, ABC has also given a put-pilot commitment to single-camera comedy, Family Friendly per Deadline. The project hails from Telenovela creators Christine Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein and Jason Winer (Single Parents, Life In Pieces) and 20th Century FOX TV. Pietrosh and Goldstein will pen the pilot.
Family Friendly revolves around three working moms, who would have never been friends outside of work, but band together to survive an office that, despite its wholesome public image, is not quite “family friendly.”
