Jennifer Beals (Taken, The Last Tycoon, Proof, The L Word) has joined the cast of DC Universe's upcoming Swamp Thing series per Deadline. Beals will recur in a key role as Sheriff Lucilia Cable opposite Crystal Reed and Maria Sten. The drama based on DC characters hails from James Wan in association with Warner Bros. Television. The live-action drama will debut on the streaming service in 2019.
Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman will pen the script with Wan, Verheiden, Dauberman, Michael Clear, and Wiseman executive producing the live-action series. Len Wiseman (Sleepy Hollow) is set to direct.
Tough as nails and pragmatic, Sheriff Lucilia Cable’s fierce devotion to her son, Matt, is rivaled only by her sworn duty to serve and protect the town of Marais. As the community she has dedicated her life to defending is beset by strange forces, Lucilia must double down in her efforts to safeguard everyone she holds dear.
