Robert Greenblatt has now been confirmed by Deadline to exit NBC after 8 years.

George Cheeks and Paul Telegdy have been announced as co-chairmen of NBC Entertainment per NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke.

Greenblatt will stay on as a consultant as the transition takes place and will continue to work on NBC's live musicals per The Hollywood Reporter.

It is with very mixed feelings that I have decided to leave NBC after nearly eight years. I love this network and our parent company, but since NBC is back on track and has achieved such great success I think it’s time for me to turn to a new challenge.

I will admit that when Steve Burke recruited me I wasn’t sure a turnaround was even possible. But Steve — and Brian — were determined to rebuild NBC and they made that clear to me from day one. I had unconditional support from them, including robust investment in the network, and that support has continued to this day. None of this could have happened without their commitment to me and this company and I will never forget it.

Deadline is reporting that NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt is in negotiations to leave the broadcast network after eight years. Talks are ongoing and are expected to possibly finalize by this weekend.

It's noted that Greenblatt's choice to depart is a personal one as he had been re-evaluating his life and career following the sudden death of his close friend, producer Craig Zadan.

Variety reports that Greenblatt will meet with NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burk this weekend to work out an exit plan and give NBC time to find a successor.

Greenblatt, who is rumored to possibly be returning to producing, is leaving NBC on a strong note. The network logged another No. 1 finish in adults 18-49 for the 2017-18 broadcast season, marking its fourth win in five years.

NBC also finished the 52-week 2017-18 season as the No. 1 network in nearly every ratings measure, including total viewers — the first time since 2001-02 that NBC has taken the total-viewers crown.

It's understood that Greenblatt saw the total-viewers victory as a big milestone that was a good bookend for his NBC run.
