Let's talk about how enganging and complicated "Ozark" becomes in its fifth episode. Enganging, because it has a pace that other episodes don't have, complicated because things are said, truths get uncovered and some people understand what kind of life they are leading.
Marty's loyalty gets questioned after being confronted by Agent Petty, following the raid. What happens after the meeting is a lot and it's all told beautifully and precisely as it should be: no rush and the right amount of suspense.
Helen comes to the help of Marty as his attorney. Of course, she's representing the cartel and Marty being in trouble means that the cartel is too.
Ruth is the one suffering the most during the episode. The cartel thinks she's cooperating with the FBI mainly because Agent Petty stages a conversation that looks like something more than just an investigation. Of course the cartel thinks there might be something more than just an FBI agent questioning one of Marty's associates. Unfortunately for her, even if Wendy and Marty vouched for me, she gets tortured and will definitely suffer the consequences. It was hard to watch. Truly.
I loved the interactions between Petty and the Byrdes, especially the one at their house when the agent shows them the video of Wendy cheating. That proves to be a successful tactic in instilling doubt and rocking their marriage. By the way, while talking, Marty says the words "You cheated on me" to Wendy and Charlotte hears everything and then tells Jonah.
Wendy also finds out that Ruth tried to kill Marty; Agent Petty knows she tried to kill Marty; he also knows that she killed her uncles. See? An intense episode, probably the best written and directed episode they've had.
The Snells are still being difficult. They are being a problem for the cartel because they are refusing to get rid of their poppies in their property to let the construction for the casino move forward. It was incredible (and I have to say, pretty funny) to see Buddy take care of the situation. The scene was visually stunning! buddy truly is the Byrde's secret weapon. There is absolutely no doubt that he's suffering, but boy does he help that family in every way possible.
This episode reminded me of why I fell in love with the show in the first place. Yes, it was for Laura Linney, at first, you may know that by now. But what I am appreciating now is how smoothly the storylines blend in, especially when it comes to tell the story of Marty and Wendy's marriage and how the business influences the existence of their family. I really am looking forward to seeing what happens next, because this episode has laid out a lot.

Buddy: "When you think you're gonna die yesterday, today is sweet. So, hang in, Wendy. Lose your sh*t tomorrow. Today's no day to fall apart".
