New Amsterdam - Advance Preview - Trouble

"Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold), the institution's newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking "no" for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital - the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof - and return it to the glory that put it on the map."

"We are the system."

Max Goodwin comes as the newest medical director and as a doomed spot no one thinks he'll make a difference, now this story does not sound new, and neither does the fact that it's a medical drama. What gives New Amsterdam the edge, other than its amazing lead, is the place they're in, this will surely provide fresh new possibilities regarding cases, and a twist by the end which is not really that new or that necessary, but we'll see how they handle it.

Ryan Eggold (The Blacklist) is, of course, not the only great actor in this cast, Freema Agyeman (Sense8) is Dr. Helen Sharpe a brilliant mind that has been doing publicity for a while and Max is set on getting back to the OR, and Janet Montgomery (Salem) is Laura Bloom a bold and smart hot mess that will share in Eggold's spotlight. There' also Tyler Labine (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency) as Dr. Iggy Frome, a psychiatrist that will bring a different kind of stories, Dr. Vijay Kapoor(Anupam Kher - Sense6), and Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims - The Last Ship).

Every time Eggold is on screen you're compelled to see what happens, how he resolves things, how he takes news, and it's not just that, in the most subtle ways he's creating a character you want to get to know, the writers weren't as subtle in showing us some of his personal situations, but a character is more than that and I can't wait to see more of him.

Yes, there are a lot of medical dramas out there, and some very good, but out of all of them I think I'd choose this one. New Amsterdam is exciting, fast-paced, complex, and filled with amazing people who won't let you look away. And there's something about Goodwin being a rebel in a way that makes it all that much more exciting, the idea of not only fighting this system no one thinks is that good but changing it completely for the good, is something that has to resonate with a whole lot of people.

"Let's get into some trouble."

New Amsterdam premieres TONIGHT, SEPTEMBER 25 (10:00PM - 11:00PM), on NBC. Are you excited about this one? Let me know in the comments.
