Variety has exclusively revealed that Disney's upcoming streaming service is developing a number of limited series centered on popular Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Variety notes the shows will likely feature Loki, Scarlet Witch along with other beloved superheroes who have yet to appear in their own standalone feature films. The series are expected to range from 6 to 8 episodes.
Variety highlights that Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen are expected to reprise their roles in the streaming shows. Also of interest, Netflix's Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders along with ABC's Agents of SHIELD will remain under the Marvel TV banner whilst these newly announced limited series will be set under Marvel Studios per Variety.
Marvel Studios will produce the expensive superhero series (which is expected to rival major studio productions) with Kevin Feige expected to have a hands-on role in their development.
Insiders stress the Avengers that have gotten their own movies like Iron Man and Captain America will not be featured in the series with the studios focusing on characters who have served as second tier characters in the MCU.
