Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ralph Breaks the Internet), Reggie Lee (Grimm) and Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley, Crazy Rich Asians) will guest star during the upcoming fifth season of Fresh Off The Boat per Entertainment Weekly. Deadline notes the roles will be recurring but so far two appearances are scheduled per the article, the debut and one for later in the season.
Deadline notes that Evan will find the trio of new characters whilst doorbelling ringing, working for the United States Census. They will debut in November during the episode, "Mo' Chinese Mo", and will return for at least one more episode later in the season. Ming-Na previously guest starred on the comedy last year during "The Flush" as Stephanie.
Ming-Na Wen will play Elaine, a Chinese-American woman with a smart sense of humor who’s everything Jessica (Wu) could dream of in a Chinese BFF. They seem to have a million things in common, and Elaine earns the nickname “Chinese Oprah” for her ability to give wonderful advice.
Reggie Lee will play Julius, a Chinese-American man who genuinely loves steak, apple pie, the Dallas Cowboys and other all-American things. Louis and him bond quickly, but their new friendship is put to the test by an old buddy of Louis’.
Jimmy O. Yang will play Horace, Elaine and Julius’s son, a talented, affable artist who skipped two grades and went to Harvard at age 16 on a full scholarship. His amazing résumé wins Jessica’s adoration until he reveals some secrets from his past.
