Hey all,
Last year was, bizarrely, The Originals' first appearance in this competition, losing to Bones in the first round. Today, it enters the competition as the fifth-most nominated finished show and you'd imagine it will perform better this year. Indeed, its opponent today, 12 Monkeys, has featured in more editions than The Originals. It too went out in the first round last year, to Breaking Bad, having made the second round in its debut year of 2017. As a rule of thumb, any of the top eight nominated shows generally become favourite in these early contests, but the winner today is anyone's guess.
Both Teen Wolf and Orphan Black were considered current shows last year, with the competition coming just prior to their respective series finales. Again, the form guide here is surprising: Teen Wolf has never made the second round despite four attempts; Orphan Black made the third round in 2014 with a second round exit two years later. The MTV series finished fourth-bottom of the rankings in 2017. Will the same happen again this time?
