Original: August 18, 2018: Jim Parsons Developing U.S. Remake of British Comedy Miranda for Warner Bros. TV
Jim Parsons is producing a US remake of British sitcom "Miranda", SpoilerTV has learned. Parsons will develop the comedy for Warner Bros TV, where he is under an overall deal, with his husband Todd Spiewak through their company That's Wonderful Productions.
Miranda centers on an ungainly, socially awkward, woman who frequently finds herself in bizarre & hilarious misunderstandings and situations. Miranda has a charming naïveté and always feels out of step with the rest of the world. Although this often irritates her friends & family, they tolerate her because, at heart, she is intelligent & good-natured. More oddball than conventional, she opted to invest her inheritance from her uncle in a gift shop rather than pursuing what her mother perceives as a more "respectable" career. Despite wanting a boyfriend (she often jokes about her inexperience), she balks at the supposedly "suitable" men that her mother & friends try to set her up with.
The original comedy starred Miranda Hart and aired on BBC from 2009 to 2015, which consisted of three 6-episode seasons and two Christmas specials. Hart will produce the remake, though it is not yet known if she will star. Also among the producers is Emma Strain, who produced the original for 2 seasons, and Angie Stephenson (The Night Of, Da Vinci's Demons).
