Trial & Error - Advance Preview - As Hilarious As Ever

In the spirit of true crime documentaries, the second season of this outrageous fish-out-of-water comedy centers on bright-eyed New York lawyer Josh Segal (Nicholas D’Agosto), still relatively a newcomer in a tiny southern town, who is sturdily posed for his next big case there. His mission? To defend the eccentric first lady of East Peck, Lavinia Peck-Foster (Kristin Chenoweth), known for her flamboyant outfits, large hats and hairless cat, and who suddenly finds herself accused of the bizarre murder of her beloved husband. As Josh continues to settle into his makeshift office behind a taxidermy shop while working with his quirky team of local misfits, he suspects that winning his second big case this time should be easy (especially when his client is the town favorite), but is it?

Trial & Error continues to be as hilarious and irreverent as ever. The comedic timing continues to be perfect and the best thing about the whole show. The bizzare events are sopmetimes funny, sometimes a bit too much, but that is no surprise. One of those things was an unnintelegible judge that I really didn't appreciate. Also, I have to say I have never really liked Cristen Chenoweth so I might be biased, but even though I feel she doesn't add much and is nowhere near as much of an asset to the show as John Lithgow was, the reactions of the rest of the cast still make it work. Lavinia Peck Foster is the first lady of East Peck and it's very funny how a la Kim Jong Un they all seem to have a scrip about what to say to flatter her even when she's being investigated for murder.

As for the team, Anne is still comming up with new ridiculous contidtions, Dwayne is still as incompetent as ever, and Josh is forever the fish out of water. Also, Larry Henderson went full OJ so Josh is now known for getting murderes off jail. The take on feminism in East Peck is hilarious and horrible at the same time, especially the way it was handled around Carol Anne's pregnancy. In short, if you liked season one, season two will not disappoint. I, for one, am hoping we get as many seasons of this show as we can get, since they've shown they can reinvent themselves just by changing the defendant and there's just something so special about it you just don't find in other comedies today, they seem to have nailed the comedic style and the performances are just perfect.

Season two of Trial & Error premieres on NBC, Thursday, July 19th at 9 and 9:30 p.m.. Will you be watching? Let me know in the comments.
