The SpoilerTV 2018 Episode Competition - Winner and Final Words

Hey all,

We're done with the Episode Competition once more, and after 17 days of polls, we have our sixth-ever winner.

Yes, Timeless's "Hollywoodland" emerged victorious, beating The 100's "Sleeping Giants" in the final. A valiant effort for the CW series which outperformed expectation — not, of course, that it's especially surprising.

Timeless becomes the fourth show to win this competition, alongside Beauty and the Beast, Person of Interest, and Outlander. This is the first time a show has not retained its crown, so extra congratulations to Timeless for succeeding there. As we know, it will not, however, be able to defend its crown next year.

Just one major statistic for you this year: the quarter-finals became the most viewed post on the site in Episode Competition history, which is very nice indeed. The annual results list, in which all 64 episodes are ranked by round and vote, is towards the bottom of the post. Big thanks to Laura Markus for helping out with that — a task I would have otherwise foolishly left until the competition was over, as per usual.

A couple of huge thank yous. First to DarkUFO, whose assistance, as always, makes this competition far, far easier for me to run and allows the thing to exist in the first place, thanks to his maintenance of the site (without SpoilerTV, there are no competitions here, obviously). Just as important is you, the readers/voters, without whom this competition would be unable to run due to the sheer lack of involvement. The enthusiasm from those who did get involved was fantastic; you contributed a lot, whether you participated at all stages or if you just turned up for one or two polls.

This competition may be over, but unless this is your first rodeo, you know the fun is just getting started. Not only do we have the Character Cup — always a popular one — and the SpoilerTV Awards to come in the next few weeks, but in August we will have the return of the Series Competition!

I'll be back then to run that competition, and I hope you'll all join me. What else are you going to do with your summer — go outside? In the meantime, I'll be here at SpoilerTV, writing my thoughts on some of what TV has to offer — both good and bad — as well as on the SpoilerTV Podcast. If I ever get caught up on anything, that is. Any of my written content here can, as always, be found under my author label. I also maintain my own TV blog, which I haven't updated in over a year and it would be a minor miracle if I wrote something for it anytime soon. As usual, if you'd like to get in touch with me, my Twitter and email address are below.

For now, though, thanks again to everyone who took part, and I'll see you all again in 2019.
