The Nanny - Revival Teased by Fran Drescher

In our era of reboots and revivals and remakes, The Nanny is the latest name to join this group of nostalgic projects.

Per ET Online's exclusive, a revival of the classic comedy starring Fran Drescher is being considered a possibility. The series ran from 1993 to 1999, with this year marking its 25th anniversary of the premiere.

Fran notes that if the revival is greenlit her character on the show will become "more involved in social issues".

The series ended with Fran and Maxwell getting married and having kids of their own so the revival "couldn't simply be a continuation of the same storylines." It would rather be the same characters 20 years later. No picking up where they left off which is in of itself a good thing, it allows for new, fresh stories to play out.

Whilst the revival isn't officially picked up by a network or ordered, share your thoughts on the potential project in the comments below as Fran herself waits "to get the call".

"We're talking about it. Peter and I are talking about it," Drescher said, referring to ex-husband and collaborator, Peter Marc Jacob, who co-created the sitcom with her. "We're working on a very big project. It's going to be very exciting for the fans, but I'm not at liberty to announce it yet. But it's gonna be big."

"She would've maybe gotten involved in more things [that] Fran Drencher is involved with," she said. "All kinds of things from environmental issues, to health, to civil liberties, that's what I think Fran would be doing now-- opening her big Queens mouth for the greater good."
